I sunbathe at area lakes while wearing a g-string thong. Since "they" won't let me tan nude at public places in Arkansas and Northeast Texas, the g-string is the next best choice.

Before 1999, I had always been pasty white because I'd never go out in the sun to tan. I wouldn't tan because I was pasty white.

In the spring of 1999, I decided to solve the "problem". I was working at Arkadelphia, Arkansas. One of the state's premier lakes, DeGray, is nearby. Within 15 minutes, I could be at the lake. I decided to go and work on a tan. And, to "do it right".

I called the office of the Corp of Engineers and asked if it was OK for a guy to wear a bikini at the lake, and they said "Sure. Some people will laugh at you, but it's fine." I shopped around and found a nice bikini.

Yes, I had to work up the courage to "do it" the first time I went. But, I was successful and I spent many afternoons in the summer of 1999 sunbathing while wearing the bikini.

During the next summer, 2000, I had changed jobs and went 2-3 times a week to Wright-Patman Lake, southwest of Texarkana, Texas. I had done internet research and found that Texas is quite a bit more relaxed on swimwear issues. I checked with the Corp of Engineers office to be sure what I wanted to do was legal.

At Wright Patman, I wore a G-string. I learned how much fun it is to tan my buttocks and shaven pubic area. I chatted with a ranger one day and asked if there had been any complaints about my swimsuit. He told me yes, but to not be concerned. He suggested I use Spillway Park instead of North Shore if I wanted to avoid any harassment from other people.

After a few people complained to rangers, I realized the tiny elastic waist band on the G-string I had been wearing was too small for people to see. So, I ordered a royal suit with a 1/4" diameter waistband. That visibility ended most complaints.

In 2005, I started working again at Arkadelphia. I found that thongs were no more objectionable than bikinis, so I wore the thong instead of the bikini. In the fall of 2005, when very few people are at beach, I wore my G-string instead of the thong. When spring arrived, I anticipated that the park attendants would tell me I had to wear more. But, they never did. Seems people never asked them anything other than if the suit was legal, to which they replied, "Yes". So, I kept wearing the G-string!

Based on my experience, here is my advice to people who want to wear minimal swimwear, but lack confidence in doing so. These suggestions should be valid for either men or women.
1. Minimal swimwear is not uncommon.
2. Telephone the authorities in charge of the lake/facility for information about legalities.
3. Find a reasonable suit.
4. Wear your suit as though it's the "standard swimwear" at the beach.

Here are some of my experiences:

The college kids at DeGray who come out on the beach get a few chuckles when they see me in my little suit. I've heard a few whistles directed toward me.

I've heard guys tell their girl friends "I wish I had the guts to wear one of those".

I still hear a few giggles from people who haven't seen me before.

Most college women and almost all older women seem to like it.

Guys driving away from the area and guys in passer-by boats have yelled phrases like "Put some clothes on" as they sped away. Cowards.

In Summer 2007, when someone asked Bob (the park attendant at the gate) if the G-string is legal he sometimes responded, "Sure, you can wear your thong, too, if you like."

Very few people at Texarkana have had any reaction.

At North Shore, a woman came near me when she was leaving the beach area and told me "you have the roundest butt I've ever seen." I told her "Thank you" and she smiled and laughed!

A ranger once came to the shoreline at Spillway Park to tell me someone had complained that I was nude. He saw that I was not. In our conversation, he disclosed it was a man who complained, not the woman with the man!
